What are the communication pathways with Social Security? What kind of doubt or need are you going to cover with each one of them? In the next few lines, we delve into user support services and how to contact Social Security.

Are you asking yourself how to contact Social Security? Well, this System has its own network of customer support services, a framework that is used by both the self-employed and the gestorías in charge of managing the activity of the self-employed worker. Any questions can be solved by phone, in person, or electronically.

Although it is true that Social Security has been undergoing a digitalization process for some time that also extends to the Treasury (Hacienda); the traditional customer support formulas, telephone, and face-to-face attention are still in force.

1. Contact Social Security by Phone

When you contact Social Security by telephone, you have to ask yourself what kind of doubt or need you have so they are able to refer you to the right place. It should also be noted that sometimes the waiting time is very long and that its most widespread use is by appointment.

General Treasury of Social Security (TGSS)

When you want to contact Social Security and your case is a matter related to affiliation, registration, collection, deferrals, the RED system, or general information, you must refer to the General Treasury of Social Security. The user service telephone number is 901502050, which is operational from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Through this telephone number you can access the following services:

  • Receive information and notify any type of incident on working history reports and contribution bases that the General Treasury of Social Security sends to workers who in the previous year have registered under one of the Social Security Schemes. In addition, regardless of your registration date, you can also request your working history report which will be sent by regular mail to your home address.
  • Issuance and remittance of certificates and reports.
  • Resolution of doubts about the functionalities and use of the RED system and technical incidents that may arise as well as those related to Temporary Disability Reports.
  • In general, receive information on matters assigned to the Treasury.

National Institute of Social Security (INSS)

You must refer to this Social Security body if you require general or specific information, guidance, and help about all the benefits of the system such as retirement, minimum supplements, active retirement, temporary disability, permanent disability, maternity, etc.

If you need to know if you meet the requirements for access, what documentation you must present, the status of the application process or any other management regarding benefits and you opt for the telephone service, you can contact the INSS from Monday to Friday (not holidays), uninterrupted from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the number 901166565.

And in case you require an appointment for pensions and other benefits, you can request it at 901106570.

In order to contact Social Security by telephone, in case of a query, you need to have your DNI, the Affiliation Number (NAF) that you will generally find in your working history, or the Contribution Account Code (CCC) only in case of having hired employees.

2. Contact Social Security: Face-to-face attention

If you are one of those who still carry out procedures and queries the old-fashioned way, you can go in person at one of the Social Security offices. The Social Security website itself has an office locator that works as a directory to redirect you to the office that corresponds to you. In the same way, you should have supporting documentation of your situation at hand.

3. Attention and electronic communication

Quick, easy, and convenient. This is how the communication by the self-employed worker with Social Security and vice-versa through its electronic office (SEDESS) is presented. In the medium-term future, Social Security will function completely digitally and projects such as direct settlement or the RED system have contributed to this, to which all self-employed workers had to join on a mandatory basis last year.

The Social Security Electronic Headquarters is the consultation center for all available information (worker rights, benefits, regulations…) and the operations center that is articulated between the following sections that you must access by means of a digital certificate and by configuring the browser to let you use the electronic signature:

  • Telematic Notifications: Allows the management of notifications of administrative acts between Social Security and the self-employed worker. Since October 2018, all self-employed workers must be incorporated into the Social Security telematic notification system.
  • RED System: Only for self-employed workers, natural or legal person, with dependent workers.
  • Your Social Security: From this site you also have access to a good part of your procedures, especially those related to retirement, family (maternity and paternity), and health care. It works in a simple way and as a mailbox to check your situation in Social Security.
  • Citizens and companies: For changes in data, requests for reports, Social Security registrations, or discharge processes. The companies section is the most used by the self-employed but the nature of the procedure will determine the section to which you can refer.

Contact Social Security through their inquiry mailbox

On the Social Security website, there is also access to a tool from which you can obtain an official response from the Administration. There is the query mailbox, another communication system through which any user can ask a question. It is a practical and relatively fast option since the average response time is 24-48 hours.

Remember that it is also advisable to have the service and the friendly hand of an online consultancy that is able to give you the security of well-done procedures.
