What is the Family Member Card? (Tarjeta Comunitaria)
The Family Member Card is a residence document that allows relatives of EU citizens to enjoy free movement and residence in the Member States.
On the other hand, by possessing the family member card, you will be able to enjoy a series of outstanding benefits. These include the possibility of traveling to any country of the European Union without restrictions, as well as access to social services such as medical care and education, under conditions equivalent to those of Spanish citizens. In addition, you will have the opportunity to move within the countries belonging to the EU, and renewing it is an extremely simple process.
Documents for the Family Member Card Application
- Application form Form EX19 in duplicate, properly filled in and signed by the EU citizen's family member.
- A complete, valid, and in-force passport from the family member is required. If the passport has expired, a copy of the passport and the renewal application must be provided.
- Certificate of collective empadronamiento..
- Documents proving the family relation to the EU or EEA citizen.
- DNI or CUE of the EU citizen for which the procedure is going to be carried out.
- Three full-colour photographs.

Status of the EU citizen in case of being:
1. Employed individuals: They must present the declaration of employment, the work contract registered with the Servicio Público de Empleo (Public Employment Service) and the Social Security registration document.
2. Self-employed individuals: They must provide proof of registration in the census of economic activities, evidence of registration in the Mercantile Registry or the document of registration with Social Security.
3. If unemployed: They must have public or private insurance in Spain and prove that they have sufficient resources for themselves and their family members.
4. If it is a student: They must present the enrolment form of the study centre, have Spanish public or private insurance and have sufficient resources to support themselves and their family.
