I am a European citizen, what do I need?
- If you are staying in Spain for less than 90 days you only need to have your identity card from your country of origin or your passport.
- If you will stay in Spain for more than 90 days you must apply for the European Union Citizen Registration Certificate "CUE" (or "Green NIE") through the Form EX18 and providing extra documentation such as your original passport and work contract or proof of study to prove your activity in Spain.
- EU citizens do not need a NIE to reside in Spain, but may obtain one if they wish to carry out commercial activities or need tax identification.
I do NOT have a European passport:
- The TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero) in Spain is required if you will reside for more than 90 days in the country. You must present the valid authorisation or visa to reside in Spain, fill in the Form EX17, pay the associated fee, and process your fingerprinting.
