What is the social Arraigo in Spain?
In Spain, the Social Arraigo is a residence authorization for exceptional circumstances which is granted to foreigners who have been resident for at least three years and that are socially integrated.
Social Arraigo is based on the idea that the foreigner has developed a level of integration into Spanish society that justifies the granting of a residence authorization, even if they do not meet the traditional immigration conditions.

Conditions for applying for Arraigo Social in Spain
- NOT being a citizen of the European Union.
- NOT being prohibited from entering Spain, or countries that have agreements with Spain.NOT be prohibited from entering Spain, or countries that have agreements with Spain.
- NOT having the commitment of not returning to Spain. This is established for foreigners who have opted to leave the country voluntarily and has a term of 3 years.
- To have resided in Spain for a continuous period of 3 years, if absences were taken, they must not exceed 120 days.
- To have a employment contract or commitment to a registered employment contract for one year. The employer must guarantee continued economic activity.
- It is also possible to prove self-employment or sufficient economic resources if recommended by the social integration report.
- To have family ties with other resident foreigners or with Spaniards, or presenting a social integration report from the City Hall or Autonomous Community certifying their social integration.
- All documents must be legalized and/or apostilled and translated into Spanish or the co-official language of the territory where the application is submitted.
Documentation to apply for the Social Arraigo in Spain
If you work as an Employee:
- Have an employment contract signed by the employer and the employee for a period of not less than one year. The company or the employer must be registered with Social Security, as well as be up to date with their tax and Social Security obligations.
- Copy of the N.I.F. and, if necessary, of the deeds of the company.
- Copy of the training certificate and, if necessary, the professional qualification legally required for the exercise of the profession.
- Accreditation that the company guarantees the necessary economic resources, through the following: the IRPF, VAT or Corporate Tax return, or the Informe de la Vida Laboral de la Empresa (Company's Labor Life Report or VILE). Also, a descriptive report of the occupation to be performed must also be provided.
- In addition, you are allowed to present several contracts in the same occupation, working simultaneously for more than one employer, all of them for at least one year and the combination of them must represent a weekly working time of at least 30 hours in total.
If you are self-employed:
- Copy of the documentation certifying possession of the training and, if necessary, the professional qualification legally required for the exercise of the profession.
- The project for the establishment or activity to be carried out, with an indication of the planned investment, the expected earnings and, if necessary, the jobs that are expected to be created.
