In some provinces of Spain, the option for online appointments to pick up the TIE (Foreigner Identity Card) has been enabled; and they are already giving these appointments.
If you have already done the fingerprinting process and due to the State of Alarm you were unable to pick up the Foreigner Identity Card, check below and see if your province already has the Foreigner Identity Card (TIE) pick-up option enabled and request your appointment.
How to request an Appointment to Pick Up the TIE?
Below we show you how can request, step by step, an appointment to pick up the TIE (unfortunately, this process has no English version available).
An appointment is mandatory
This procedure before the State of Alarm did not need an appointment. Now, due to everyone’s health and safety measures, a prior appointment is necessary.
At the moment, we have seen the option enabled for the following provinces:
- La Coruña
- Almeria
- Cantabria
- Granada
- Islas Baleares
- Lleida
- Málaga
- Melilla
- Murcia
- Tarragona
- Soria
- Sevilla
- Segovia
- Pontevedra
- Zaragoza
Be very aware of the remaining provinces because they will be enabled little by little, especially in large provinces such as Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia. To obtain this appointment, you must confirm in advance with the office that issued your card from what date it will be available.
Who can go to pick up the TIE?
The TIE pick-up procedure will be carried out exclusively by its own holder. In the case of minors under 6 years of age, it is not necessary to verify their fingerprint to pick up the TIE, so the person holding the legal representation or their guardianship may attend, without the minor.
For minors over 6 years of age and people with legally diminished capacity, their fingerprints must be verified at the time of the card’s delivery. Therefore, they must be present at the office at the time of the TIE pick-up, with the person who holds their legal representation.
Documents needed to Pick Up the TIE of a minor
The documents that must be presented to prove the relationship with the minor are:
- Original and valid identity documents, in any case.
- Minor born in Spain: family book, birth certificate from the Civil Registry or court ruling of guardianship.
- Minor born abroad: birth certificate or documents of guardianship of the minor translated (if needed) and legalized, either with the Hague Apostille or through diplomatic channels.
To prove the power of attorney:
- Power of attorney issued in Spain.
- Power of attorney made outside of Spain, translated (if needed) and legalized, either with the Hague Apostille or through diplomatic channels.
- Minor student with SME visa: They must be accompanied only by the person who appears in the report of the Government Delegation, duly accredited and with their original and valid identity documents.
- Protected minors: They must be accompanied by a person responsible for the guardianship center who will show their original and valid identity documents, and the official guardianship documents.
To pick up the TIE, you’ll need the issued receipt and the document proving the identity of the foreign citizen, original and in force. The documents that can be presented to prove identity are:
- Passport from the country of origin.
- Registration card for undocumented foreigners issued by the Spanish authorities.
- Foreign travel title, validly issued and recognized by Spain.
At the time of picking up the newly issued TIE, the citizen must hand over their previous card (whether it is expired or still in force), or failing that, present the original loss or theft report.
