We know that you are concerned about your situation as a foreigner in Spain during the current State of Alarm, which is why we will show you all the immigration procedures you can do online because being able to carry out your procedures online without having to leave home is, without any doubts, a huge advantage.
The General Secretary of Immigration and Emigration allows a large part of the processing of documentation at the Government Subdelegation to be carried out online.
In this article, we will inform you about all the immigration procedures that you can carry out online and also see what documentation and requirements you must meet in order to do them correctly.
What immigration procedures can you carry out online?
Let’s see, one by one, all the procedures with the immigration office that you can carry out online.
Request an appointment to submit your application
One of the most useful procedures that you can carry out online is to request an appointment with the immigration office located in your province, setting up its date and time.
To request this appointment in order to present all the required documents in person at the immigration office, you must do so through the Public Administration webpage destined to it.
Not sure where your nearest office is? You can find it here, in the section “Immigration Offices in regional Government Agencies“.
If you do not have a digital certificate, which is needed when making these online procedures, we show you how to get it.
Download and pay online the fees for your immigration procedures
Each procedure requires the payment of a fee
For example, when you enter Spain to get your residence permit, you have to pay a small amount in the form of a fee to go through the fingerprinting process, which receipt you must attach with the rest of the application documents.
Hence, this payment can be made online and you can download and pay online any of the two existing fees, and this is true both for obtaining your residence permit and for renewing it.
So, there are 2 different fees that you can pay online:
- Fee 052, for residence authorizations and other documentation to foreign citizens, which you can pay online here.
- Fee 062, for work authorizations to foreign citizens, which you can pay online here.
To be able to make this payment online you must have a DNI or a digital certificate. You make the payment and then send its settlement. It is that easy!
If you do not have either of these two documents, you must make the payment in person at a bank or any other collaborating entity.
Check the status of your application or file
Once you send all the required documentation to obtain your authorization or residence card, you will be able to see the status of your application online.
That means, checking if it already has a resolution (approved or denied), or is still pending.
You simply have to consult it by adding your NIE or file number within this link, and you will be able to check its status.
Present the renewal of your residence card
During the period between 60 days before and 90 days after the validity of your card expires, you must renew it.
However, it may be an easier process than you expect because you have the option of doing it online, without even leaving home!
But again, you must have a DNI or digital certificate to be able to do so.
What renewals can be submitted online?
- Family regrouping
- Non-profit residence
- Regular work permit, i.e., the authorization for temporary residence and self-employed or as an employee.
- Work permit as a highly qualified worker.
- Modification of family, labor or social arraigo to one of residence and work authorization.
Request your long-term residence card
After having legally lived in Spain for 5 years, you can request your long-term residence card.
We already saw in our post about how to renew the residence card that this process can be done online. But, in addition, this also includes the procedure for permanent residence in Spain.
This way, you can request your long-term residence card without having to go to an immigration office in person.
Provide the documents that are missing in your file or application
Finally, what happens if you forgot to attach a specific document to your application? Do you have to make an appointment with the immigration office again to hand it in?
Well, there is no need to do that. It is possible to provide the missing documents in your immigration file also online, which means that the extra documentation of the procedures you have in course can be uploaded online.
And again, you will need the digital certificate to do this.
You simply have to access this link to upload the missing documents.
How to get a digital certificate for your immigration procedures?
As you may have noticed, the digital certificate is something completely essential in most of the procedures that you will carry out online.
This is an electronic certification that allows you to prove your identity online in order to be able to carry out legally valid procedures.
In other words, it is an “electronic signature” that allows you to carry out procedures safely with the Spanish Public Administration.
If you still do not have one and would like to request it, on the FNMT “Certificates” section you can find out how.
