We explain the step-by-step procedure to request the “Report on being up to date on Social Security contributions” online.

You can request this report (also called “certificate”) online. Being up to date with Social Security is an essential obligation so that your benefits are not rejected due to debts to the Treasury. However, some workers do not know if they have their accounts up to date and sometimes other procedures require presenting a certificate of being up to date with these payments.

Those who may have debts to Social Security are only self-employed workers or companies. However, a salaried employee can also apply for the certificate.

This report on being up to date on Social Security contributions will be valid for twelve months counted from the date of its issuance.

What is the Report on being up to date on Social Security contributions?

Said report is a document proving whether or not a person or a company has debts with Social Security.

We are all employed or self-employed and pay contributions every month, which entitles us to benefits such as public health care, disability benefits if we are unable to work, maternity benefits, and retirement pensions.

Companies must pay the contribution fees of their employees, while the self-employed are responsible for paying their monthly fees according to the contribution base that they have chosen.

When debts are owed to the Social Security, the number of pending payments will increase with interest and surcharges, leading to seizures and foreclosure of assets by the Administration. In addition, rights concerning public benefits are forfeited.

Who can request the Report on being up to date on Social Security contributions?

The Report on being up to date on Social Security contributions can be requested by all those obliged to pay contributions (self-employed and entrepreneurs) and the self-employed to make sure that their employer is complying with the obligations.

What is the purpose of the Report on being up to date on Social Security contributions?

Normally this report is requested when some procedure with the Public Administration must be carried out. These procedures in which it is usually necessary to prove that we do not have any outstanding debt with Social Security are related to:

  • Get bonuses or grants.
  • Be able to participate in competitions or public contracts.
  • Request debt payment deferrals.
  • Subcontracting, especially for the subcontractor, since as such, we would be jointly and severally liable for the debts that the subcontracted company had with Social Security.

It is also requested to prove that you are a solvent person who fulfills your obligations.

How to request the Report on being up to date on Social Security contributions?

You can request it through the Internet. To do this, you must access the Electronic Headquarters of the Social Security and enter with a DNI or digital certificate, username and password, or Cl@ve PIN

Once inside, you will be able to review the personal data, the certificate you want to request (Generic, Public Sector Tender, or Subsidies), and detailed information about the debt.

This platform allows you to access the document in PDF format with the details on the debt, if you have it, or indicating that there are no pending claims for debts already expired with Social Security.

If you do not have a digital certificate, you can also request it, but it will take longer to obtain it since it will arrive by ordinary mail. The report reflects whether or not there is debt and if there is, it shows the document number of the debt and the period and amount for which it was issued.
