For the year 2020, Spanish tax year dates are maintained by the Tax Agency (or the “Agencia Tributaria”) so that taxpayers plan their 2019 income tax return despite the coronavirus health crisis.
So yes, the tax calendar in Spain for 2020 doesn’t change much and taxpayers’ obligations are maintained despite COVID-19. This year, all those individuals residing in Spain, except those who have exclusively received income from personal work income, equal to or less than 22,000 euros from only one payer/employer, are obliged to make their income tax return in Spain.
In order for taxpayers to receive their tax returns as soon as possible, the Tax Agency began the 2019 Income campaign on April 1st, a date on which the deadline to file the 2019 Income and Wealth tax returns online will open, as well as they will begin to attend by telephone to those who wish to do so.
Through these platforms, the income tax return may be filed until June 25 if the resulting amount comes out to be paid with direct debit into the taxpayer account, and until June 30 for the rest of the cases.
On the other hand, the in-person tax campaign will start on May 13, since no changes are contemplated due to COVID-19, and as in the online and telephone filing, the deadline for those who file a return with a direct debit result (to be paid) will be open until June 25. The rest of the taxpayers will be able to present their documentation in the offices of the AEAT or the Autonomous Communities until June 30.
