Application for a Long-Term Residence Permit or an EU Long-Term Residence Permit

Official Spanish government form for non-EU citizens to apply for permanent residency after living legally and continuously in Spain for five years.

Officially known in Spanish as: “Solicitud de autorización de residencia de larga duración o de larga duración-UE”.

Through Form EX11, a long-term residence permit is requested, which grants indefinite residence and work in Spain under the same conditions as any Spanish national.

Therefore, Form EX11 includes the following types of permits to a:

  • Person who has been continuously resident in Spain for 5 years (art. 148.1).
  • Resident in Spain in the 2 years immediately preceding and 3 or more in another Member State, with a EU Blue Card (art. 148.1).
  • Resident who is a beneficiary of a contributory retirement pension (art. 148.3.a)
  • Resident beneficiary of absolute permanent incapacity or severe disability (art. 148.3.b)
  • Resident in the three years immediately preceding the application, >18 years of age and born in Spain (art. 148.3.c)
  • Spanish of origin who has lost Spanish nationality (art. 148.3.d)
  • Resident under the guardianship of a public entity for 5 consecutive years immediately preceding reaching legal age (art. 148.3.e)
  • Stateless persons or refugees in Spanish territory with recognized status (art. 148.3.f).
  • Holder of a EU long-term residence permit in another Member State (art. 155).
  • Family member of a holder of a EU long-term residence permit in another Member State (art. 156).
  • Holder of a long-term residence permit who has ceased to be a long-term resident (art. 158)
  • Child born in Spain who is the child of a long-term residence permit holder (art.185)

What is Form EX11 for?

It is used to request a long-term residence permit that authorizes you to reside and work in Spanish territory indefinitely. In addition, in the cases in which the EU long-term residence permit is requested, the possibility of obtaining a residence or residence and work permit in other Member States of the European Union is granted, according to the conditions that these determine.

Who can request it?

The foreigner that meets all the conditions stated above will have to request it personally. In the same way, if you are a resident of Spain, you can also request it through a legal representative.

What are the documents that must be attached along with Form EX11?

Where can the application be submitted?

If you are in Spain, you can go to any public registry and address this form to the Immigration Office of the province where you reside. If you are not in Spain, you can present it at the Spanish Diplomatic Mission or Consular Office in your area of ​​residence.
