What are the taxes applicable to an ecommerce in Spain?
If you have an online store or ecommerce in Spain you must take into account these taxes:
If you are self-employed:
- Personal Income Tax (IRPF): You must declare it quarterly using Form 130.
-
Value Added Tax (VAT): An ecommerce in Spain is subject to the general VAT regime. Forms 303 and 390 are used for the quarterly and annual tax return, respectively.
You must apply the VAT rate corresponding to your products or services sold, which can be 21%, 10% or 4% depending on their category.
If you have a company:
- Corporate Tax: You must file it using Form 200.
- Value Added Tax (VAT): As mentioned above, Forms 303 and 390 are used for the quarterly and annual tax return, applying the corresponding VAT rate.
Special Regime of VAT equivalence surcharge
It is an additional tax applicable to retailers who are not involved in the manufacturing of the products they sell. Both self-employed persons and companies have the option to benefit from it. However, it is not compulsory.
It applies in certain lines of business, such as the sale of clothing, footwear, jewelry, among others. Under this regime, the supplier assumes the responsibility of paying VAT instead of the buyer. In addition, it avoids having to self-assess VAT on a quarterly basis.
One-stop shop for sales within the EU:
It is a system implemented to facilitate VAT management for intra-community ecommerce businesses.
Through this one-stop shop, an individual identification number is obtained for the corresponding regime, such as the OSS (One Stop Shop) for sales within the EU. This system simplifies and speeds up compliance with tax obligations in different EU countries.

Camila Giraldo Hernández16/03/2026 Laura Neville15/03/2026 Nicolás Figueroa at Entre Trámites went above and beyond what I expected. He is articulate, extremely knowledgeable, personable, and the answer to anyone struggling to understand how to move to Spain but mystified by the bureaucracy and the many moving parts legal, accounting, and financial which may result in taxations. Mr. Williams will convert taxing and exhausting issues into an organized explanation and then provide an opportunity to retain his and his firm's services to manage those issues. FAQ
General
Info
The decision to register as self-employed (“autónomo” in Spain) or incorporate a company for your ecommerce depends on several factors, such as sales volume, structure and the growth you expect for your business.
Both options have advantages and disadvantages in terms of legal liability, tax regime, administrative costs, among others.
It is advisable to consult with a specialized advisor to make the most appropriate decision for your case.
If you carry out an economic activity on a regular, personal and direct basis through your ecommerce in Spain, it is mandatory to register as self-employed with the Social Security and Tax Agency, complying with your tax obligations and contributions.
In Spain, there are several VAT rates, which are the general (21%), reduced (10%) and super-reduced (4%). The category of tax rate applied to a product sold online depends on its nature.
For example, most products have a general tax rate of 21%, while some specific goods and services, such as basic food items and books, may have a reduced or super-reduced rate.
You can apply tax deductions to expenses related to your ecommerce, such as electricity and Internet expenses (if you work from home), advertising, software or hardware acquisition, among others.
Also, it is advisable to have the advice of a tax expert to make the most of these advantages and apply them correctly.
Having an accounting advisor to assist you with your ecommerce business in Spain has several advantages:
They can help you comply with your accounting and tax obligations, optimize the financial management of your business, take advantage of the tax benefits available, keep your documentation in order, solve your doubts and keep your business updated regarding regulatory changes.
In addition, having the support of experts gives you peace of mind and allows you to focus on growing your online business.
