The foreigner’s situation in Spain can be:

  • Stay for studies, research, training, exchange, professional practices, or volunteering
  • Relative of the holder of a long-term residence permit
  • Temporary residence:
    • As self-employed
    • As employee
    • Non-profit residence
    • Fixed-term work
    • Work authorization
    • Family reunification
    • For research
    • As a highly-qualified professional
  • Long-term residence of an EU citizen
  • Cross-border work authorization

What are the requirements to apply for the TIE?

The Foreigner Identity Card can be requested if any of the following requirements are met:

  • The legal situation of the holder of the TIE has been modified or altered.
  • The employment situation has been modified or altered, including the renewal of the residence permit.
  • The Foreigner Identity Card was stolen, lost, destroyed, or rendered useless.
  • A visa or permit has been issued to reside in Spanish territory for a period of more than 6 months.

What are the required documents in addition to Form EX17?

The following documents must be also attached to the application form:

  • Proof of payment of Fee 790 Code 012.
  • Document proving the registration with Social Security.
  • A recent passport-sized photo.
  • If applicable, a complaint stating the loss or theft of the TIE or the presentation of the unusable card.

Where to apply for it?

It can be requested at the Immigration Offices or at the Police Station of the province where the initial authorization to reside legally in Spanish territory was processed.
