The Catalan Water Agency allows you to extend the consumption sections and request a discount on the water rate. Normally, the water bill is calculated by consumption sections. To calculate the sections, a basic cohabitation unit of 3 people is taken.
Water consumption is divided into 5 progressive price brackets. If there are more than three of you at home, you will be able to consume more liters of water in each bracket. This is a direct saving in the invoice items called “Supply” and “Canon”. In addition, the waste collection rate (“TMTR”) will be reduced by 5% for each additional person. Special treatment is given to homes where people with a degree of disability of more than 75% live together. It is essential that you are all registered at the same address.
In which cases can you request a discount on the water rate?
- If 4 or more people live in your home: you can request a discount on the water rate in order to adapt the bill to the actual number of people in the home and in this way reduce part of the water rate consumption.
- If in your home you live with people with a degree of disability greater than 75% or with a level III of dependency: you can request the discount on the water rate so that each person with this disability counts double.
- If you or your family unit is in a situation of economic vulnerability: you can request a discount on the water rate according to what is established by current regulations, or if you have been recognized, through a report from the social services of the competent local Administration, the situation of being at risk of residential exclusion or any other situation that requires special protection, with the period of validity that these services determine.
What does the water rate bonus consist of?
- 1st bracket of consumption: It is increased by 1 m3 per month for each person over 3.
- 2nd bracket of consumption: It is increased by 2 m3 per month for each person over 3.
- 3rd bracket of consumption: It increases by 2 m3 per month for each person over 3.
- 4th bracket of consumption: It is increased by 1 m3 per month for each person over 3.
- 5th bracket of consumption: It increases by 4 m3 per month for each person over 3.
How to request a discount on water rates online?
The discount on the water rate can be requested online by using digital identification mechanisms, such as Digital Certificate, Electronic DNI, Cl@ve, or idCAT Móvil.
The request is made through the Catalan Water Agency website, selecting the option Solicitar ampliación de tramos para viviendas con 4 o más personas (Solicitar, consultar, modificar o renunciar) {Request extension of the water rate brackets for homes with 4 or more people (Request, consult, modify, or resign).}
If you choose the option to do it online, you must access the option Acceso a la tramitación para ciudadanos (Solicitar, consultar, modificar o renunciar) {Access to the procedure for citizens (Request, modify, or resign)} > Acceder {Access}.
Once you have chosen the way you want to identify yourself, enter the requested data.
How to request the discount on the water rate in person?
To request the discount on the water rate in person, you can go to any of the ACA offices and present the completed application form.

Office hours are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
