Most common procedures
Before going to any of the Traffic offices to carry out your procedures in person, you must request an appointment in advance. In general, all procedures require one but for some it is not necessary.
Also keep in mind that the DGT offers the option of carrying out the majority of their procedures online, without the need to make an appointment or go to their offices.
You can go to their website and check which online services are provided.
It consists of the homologation of the driving license that you have, replacing it with the equivalent Spanish license, which is a much simpler procedure than requesting a new one.
If you live in Spain and you have a driving license issued in your country of origin, you can exchange it for an equivalent Spanish one (always providing the original one) when there is an agreement with your country of origin and you meet certain administrative requirements.
If your permit is not from the European Union or the European Economic Area and does not appear in the list of countries with an agreement, your permit cannot be exchanged and you will need to obtain a new permit.
If you are going to buy or sell a vehicle, you should keep in mind some suggestions:
If you are the buyer you should know that, after signing the contract of sale, you are obliged to make the change of ownership of the vehicle within a maximum period of 30 days.
If you are the seller, in order to avoid possible problems, we recommend you to notify the sale of the vehicle as soon as the sale is completed.
