Jo Gent17/03/2025 We are an American retired couple moving to Spain who got tax-related advice from Louis Williams--and it was incredibly thorough, complete, and helpful! We had spreadsheets in our inbox before we ended the call. He is both friendly and professional. We would strongly recommend Louis and his company, and in fact we intend to contact them again in the future. Maggie Rodarte17/03/2025 Excellent exploratory meeting with Louis to discuss the tax implications of my family's move to Spain. Frequently asked questions
General info
When and how should I apply for my pension in Spain?
You can apply for your retirement pension up to three months before reaching the legal retirement age. The process is done in the Sede Electrónica de la Seguridad Social and requires documentation of your contributions, identity, and employment status.
Do I have to pay taxes on my pension?
Yes, in most cases, pensions are taxed in the IRPF (Personal Income Tax).
However, depending on your tax residence and the country paying the pension, there may be exemptions, reductions, or even agreements to avoid double taxation.
What is the Special Agreement with Social Security?
It is a tool that allows people who have stopped working or contributing (for example, because they have gone abroad or are unemployed) to continue contributing voluntarily in order not to lose the right to a future pension.
We help you to assess whether it is convenient for you and to manage it correctly with the Social Security.
