Visado de estudios en España: trámites al llegar
El visado de estudios permite a ciudadanos no comunitarios entrar en España para cursar estudios, formación o prácticas por un periodo superior a 90 días.
Una vez concedido el visado y realizada la entrada en España, es obligatorio completar varios trámites para regularizar la estancia.
Empadronamiento
El empadronamiento acredita el domicilio en España y es necesario para muchos trámites posteriores.
- Se realiza en el Ayuntamiento del municipio de residencia
- Es obligatorio aunque la estancia sea temporal
- Se solicita con pasaporte y contrato de alquiler o autorización del titular de la vivienda
Solicitud de la TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero)
La TIE es el documento físico que acredita la autorización de estancia por estudios.
- Obligatoria si la estancia es superior a 6 meses
- Debe solicitarse dentro de los 30 días siguientes a la entrada en España
- Se tramita en la Oficina de Extranjería o Comisaría de Policía
Asignación o verificación del NIE
El NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) es imprescindible para cualquier trámite legal en España.
- Suele asignarse automáticamente con la TIE
- Es necesario para abrir una cuenta bancaria, firmar contratos o trabajar
Alta en la Seguridad Social (si trabaja o realiza prácticas)
En caso de realizar prácticas remuneradas o trabajar legalmente:
- Es obligatorio estar dado de alta en la Seguridad Social
- Normalmente lo gestiona la empresa o centro de prácticas
Renovación de la estancia por estudios
Si los estudios continúan, debe renovarse la autorización.
- Se solicita desde España
- Antes de la caducidad de la TIE
- Es necesario acreditar aprovechamiento académico

Study visa in Spain: procedures upon arrival
The study visa allows non-EU citizens to enter Spain to study, train or undertake work experience for a period of more than 90 days.
Once the visa has been granted and entry into Spain has been made, it is mandatory to complete several formalities to regularise the stay.
Registration on the Municipal Census (Empadronamiento)
Empadronamiento certifies your address in Spain and is necessary for many subsequent procedures.
- It is carried out at the Town Hall of the municipality of residence.
- It is mandatory even if the stay is temporary.
- Requires passport and rental agreement or authorisation from the owner of the property.
Application for the TIE (Student Residence Card)
The TIE is the physical document that certifies authorisation to stay for study purposes.
- Mandatory if the stay exceeds 6 months
- It must be requested within 30 days of entering Spain.
- It is processed at the Foreigners' Office or Police Station.
Assignment or verification of the NIE
The NIE (Foreign Identification Number) is essential for any legal procedure in Spain.
- It is usually assigned automatically with the TIE.
- It is necessary for opening a bank account, signing contracts, or working.
Register with Social Security (if you are working or doing an internship)
In the case of paid internships or legal employment:
- It is compulsory to be registered with Social Security.
- It is usually managed by the company or training centre.
Renewal of the study stay
If studies continue, authorisation must be renewed.
