Are you planning to study in Spain?
If you are a non-EU citizen planning to study, research, or do internships in Spain for more than 90 days, you must apply for a Study Visa at the Spanish Consulate General in your country of residence.
Essential Requirements
- Institutional admission: Letter of acceptance from an authorised educational institution in Spain for a full-time programme.
- Financial solvency: You must demonstrate that you have sufficient financial means to cover the cost of your stay and return journey. This is one of the most common reasons for a visa application to be refused.
- Health insurance: A comprehensive policy, with no co-payments or waiting periods, authorised to operate in Spain.
- Official documentation: A valid passport, a visa application form and a criminal record certificate duly apostilled.

Time and requirements
The process may take several months, and the exact requirements may vary depending on your consulate.
Foreign National Identity Card (TIE)
The process does not end once you have received your visa: once you are in Spain, you will have 30 days to apply for your Foreigner’s Identity Card (TIE).
